Part-Time IT Desktop Support Technician – Richmond, VA

This is a Part-Time position scheduled for less than 30 hours per week. This position is not eligible for employee health and welfare benefits. This position is eligible for the Employee 403(b) Retirement Savings Plan.

NW3C is a non-profit, membership affiliated organization comprised of state and local law enforcement, prosecutorial, and regulatory agencies.  We provide a nationwide support system to state and local law enforcement for the prevention, investigation, and prosecution of economic and high-tech crime.

Position Overview

This is a part-time position working less than 30 hours per week reporting to the Manager of Information Technology. The Desktop Support Technician provides day-to-day consultation and problem-solving for computer users for hardware, software, network and related computer systems and peripheral devices. The position ensures the effective operation of all systems; installs and configures systems; recommends hardware and software acquisitions and upgrades.  The position documents process and procedure and ensures tasks are completed as per approved process and documentation. The position assists with various system deployment, maintenance and updating tasks for a variety of hardware and software solutions.

Personal Qualifications

The right candidate will possess a solid understanding of Desktop Support. The individual has knowledge of commonly-used concepts, practices and procedures in the Information Technology field. The individual will approach the position with a self-motivated mindset and must be able to quickly gain the respect of business partners to foster successful working relationships.

Specific Responsibilities

  1. Respond to the needs and questions of system users concerning system operation and procedures
  2. Provide technical assistance and training to system users
  3. Responsible for support and administration of hardware, software, network and communications systems
  4. Provide support for the daily operation of the computer and peripheral systems
  5. Accurately track and record IT asset inventory and software licensing compliance
  6. Perform changes and additions to various user accounts such as Windows domain, email, and other applications, ensuring that the appropriate levels of security are maintained while enabling users to complete their work effectively
  7. Configure Enter name or number applications based on user needs
  8. Ensure all end user systems have up-to-date anti-malware protection
  9. Assist IT staff to ensure software updates are tested and applied in a timely fashion.
  10. Strive to improve first call resolution, managing customer perceptions, and building strong internal relationships.
  11. Escalate assigned work when appropriate.
  12. Work with independent vendors to resolve issues with various systems and software applications.
  13. Maintain current documentation related to all facets of related responsibilities

 

Education and Experience Requirements

  1.  Associates degree or higher from an accredited college or university with an emphasis in computer science or management information systems and a minimum of two years of related experience and/or training
  2. Thorough knowledge of computer and telecommunications hardware and software is required 
  3. Experience with numerous desktop applications and various system tools and utilities are required 
  4. Microsoft, A+ or other related certifications a plus

 

This position is located in Glen Allen, VA in the Innsbrook office park. The location is situated conveniently to both I-64 and I-295 in the Far West End of Richmond. The beautifully landscaped 850 acre office park is minutes away from the Short Pump Town Center shopping and dining area.
